Tourism plays a major role in keeping downtown thriving. With support from the Crystal Coast Tourism Development Authority (CCTDA), the organization promotes the area year-round, even beyond the busy summer season. Funding helps power signature events like Alive at 5 concerts, Chowder & Cheer, and the Downtown Derby Party, bringing energy and activity to the waterfront during slower months.
Some events, like Chowder & Cheer, have become beloved traditions. The holiday weekend draws locals and tourists alike, with 750 tickets selling out in just minutes. Downtown businesses say it’s their most profitable weekend of the year, proving that tourism drives not only fun but also vital economic impact.
Even a single visitor can spark a ripple effect. When tourists shop at local boutiques, dine at restaurants, and book waterfront stays, they fuel a cycle of tax revenue and reinvestment that benefits the entire community — from shop owners to contractors and seasonal workers.
As Executive Director Marissa Moore shares, “Life would be a lot less fun without the visitors who fuel our local economy and make these moments possible.”
