Sam Cape, Gaffer’s

Sam Cape, Gaffer's
Sam Cape, the General Manager at Gaffer’s in Emerald Isle, has spent over 22 years in the restaurant industry. From fast-paced lunch rushes to packed summer nights, she’s seen it all — and her passion for hospitality hasn’t faded.

Her journey began at Subway on Camp Lejeune and later at Bogue House, where countless customers still recognize her. In 2020, she joined Gaffer’s and quickly moved into the GM role the following spring. “I tried to leave the restaurant world once, but I missed it so much I was back full-time doing what I love,” she says with a smile.

Tourism, for Sam, is all about connection — stepping into someone else’s world, experiencing new cultures and flavors, and seeing life through a new lens. It’s an experience that helps the community grow personally and economically.

Working in a tourism-driven restaurant takes skill and patience. Her team constantly adapts to large crowds, different languages, and the fast pace of busy summer seasons. For Sam, the most rewarding moments are watching her team members grow in confidence — seeing them start out nervous and finish the season thriving.

Every day, Sam pours her energy into making sure both locals and visitors leave Gaffer’s with more than just a meal — they leave with a memory of the Crystal Coast.
